Frances Ann Martinez
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother, Frances Martinez passed away on March 3, 2018 at the age of 86. She was born in Porterville, CA on October 7, 1931 to father, Guadalupe Zermano and mother, Petra Zermeno (Sandavol) who was the first Mexican-american born in Porterville.
As a teenager, Frances traveled with a group of young women consisting of her friends and cousins to San Jose to work at the Schuckl Cannery in Sunnyvale. She was known as a dedicated and hard worker. She married her husband, Louis R. Martinez Sr. in October 1954. During her marriage she supported and assisted her husband in his farm and labor contracting business while also raising her two sons, Louis Martinez Jr. and Steve Martinez. She was known to many throughout Porterville as “Yaya”, a named given to her by her sister as a young girl and which she was fondly called by her grandchildren and their friends. She devoted her life to her family making sure that those she loved were always cared for and those who visited her home left with a full belly. When she wasn’t taking care of her grandchildren, she was gardening, watching her novellas, or preparing food for her next visitors. She was dedicated to her faith and regularly attended St. Anne’s Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Jenny Zermeno, and her nephew, Joseph Gonzalez.
She is survived by her two sons; her sister, Marina Baeza; her brother, Joe Zermeno; her granddaughters, Theresa Luci, Laura Martinez, and Lupe Martinez; her grandson, Louis Martinez, III, and two great-grandchildren, Emily Luci and Juliet Lemus.
Steve and Sylvia Martinez would like to thank Sierra View Medical Center for the exceptional care they gave Frances during her stay there. The family asks that she be kept in your thoughts and prayers.
A Visitation will be held at Myers Chapel on Monday, March 12, 2018 form 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Rosary will be held at Myers Chapel on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Anne’s Church on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
