Jerald Christopher Achterberg

Jerald Christopher Achterberg, age 45, resident of Porterville, passed away, surrounded by family, on March 8, 2018 in Visalia, California after a long illness. He was born in Lindsay, California on August 6, 1972 to Jerald and Deborah (Tolan) Achterberg.

In 2002 he married Shelby Cartwright, who brought two children, Breanna and Brent, to the marriage. The couple was later blessed with the birth of Emily and Ethan.

Chris had a lifelong love of music and was an accomplished guitar player. His greatest treasure in life was being with his children. He fabricated and installed specialized equipment and was a distributor for the agriculture industry.

Chris leaves behind his parents, Jerry and Deborah Achterberg, his sister, Amy Navarro, and is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Marge and Albert Achterberg, by maternal grandmother, Margueritte Lamb, and his uncle Rolland Achterberg.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Porterville Church of the Nazarene, 2005 W. Olive Ave., Porterville. A reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Porterville Church of the Nazarene Children’s Department for Summer Camp Scholarships.
