Monache High School defeated Mission Oak 6-3 Thursday in a makeup East Yosemite League
match at home.
The Marauders were tied 3-3 after singles but swept doubles for the win. The No. 1 duo of Jake Buckley and Josue Orozco lost their first set 6-0 but came back and won the next one 6-4 and the tiebreaker 15-13. No. 2 Sage Martinez and Arvin Sahagan won their match 6-2, 6-0 and No. 3 Angel Cabrera and Johnny Hu won 6-4, 6-4.
In singles No. 3 Orozco won his first set 6-4 but tied 6-6 in the second set and went on to win the tiebreaker 9-7. No. 4 Sahagan won 6-2, 7-5 and No. 5 Nick Nuno lost his first set 6-1 but rallied back to win the second set 7-5 and the tiebreaker 10-3. Lindsay 6 Strathmore 3
Lindsay High School boys tennis defeated rival Strathmore 6-3 in Wednesday’s East Sequoia League match in Lindsay.
In singles the Cardinals No. 2 Youanni Cardenas won 8-5, No. 3 Howard Escobedo won 8-6, No. 4 Cristian Sanchez won 8-6 and No. 6 Braulio Mena won 8-3. The Spartans
No. 1 Jorge Prado won his single’s match 8-7 and the tiebreaker 7-5. Strathmore’s No. 5 Eduardo Lopez won 8-7 and then beat his opponent 8-6 in the tiebreaker.
In double’s Strathmore’s No. 1 duo of Prado and Heriberto Vasquez won 8-5 while Lindsay’s No. 2 Escobedo and Mena won 8-6. The Cardinals also were awarded a win in the No. 3 match. Porterville 241 Mission Oak 270
Porterville High School’s boys golf team beat Mission Oak 241270 in an East Yosemite League match at Tulare Golf Course Thursday.
DJ Herrera carded a 43 to lead the Panthers followed closely by Jarod Forrester with a 44. Tyler Jones shot a 50, Parker Jones finished with a 51, Ethan Standridge carded a 53 and Tro-q-hill Franco scored a 59.
“We didn’t have a great day but the first time that we play in Tulare is always tough for the kids,” PHS head coach David Herrera said.
