The City of Porterville’s Wall of Fame ceremony will be at 3:30 p.m. on March 23. The ceremony will take place at the Heritage Center. Each year since 2007 council members have nominated individuals for the honor of being placed on the city’s Wall of Fame located inside the Porterville Heritage Community Center.

SATURDAY CASA of Tulare County’s second Annual Superhero Run is set for March 24 at Mooney Grove Park. The event features a 5K and 1K Run/walk (timed), raffle and a Superhero Costume Contest as well as a pancake breakfast served by the Visalia Breakfast Lions. Included with your registration: One CASA Superhero Run t-shirt, a commemorative gear bag and water bottle (first 75 registrants only); a finisher’s medal; and a chip timed race. All registrants are automatically eligible for the raffle on the day of the run. Registration cost is $25 per runner/walker age 12 years and older and $10 for anyone 11 years and younger. sergeant Shepherd, the new costumed mascot for the Porterville Police Department, is available to appear at youth-oriented meetings and events. The mascot’s purpose is to spread the motto — “Stand Up and Speak Out!” According to the Police Department, Shepherd will be encouraging the community to “Stand Up” for family, friends and community, and “Speak Out” against drugs, bullies and crime.
