Get out and vote
Editor,
For approximately four years East Porterville residents were without water. Failure from their elected representatives to address the problem was finally acknowledged (I agree, better late than never). Neither the city or county came to the rescue at the time the crisis started gaining attention.
City officials rightfully claimed that it was not their problem, that it was a county issue, meanwhile, at the county level the voters elected representative was nowhere to be found. Local residents and organizations took it upon themselves to deliver bottled water to eastside residents, while city and county officials were still in the “eeny meeny miny moe”, who wants to share the responsibility mode.
While elected officials parade to forums, meet the candidates, morning coffee, and fundraising events during an election year, they all do the same song and dance to the 1970 song lyrics, Ball of Confusion, “Vote for Me, and I Will Set you Free” until the elections are over and the voters end up getting suckered again.
In Porterville it’s also called taxation without representation, knock-knock — $40,500 for an outside firm to show the Porterville City Council how to suck up more taxes from us, it makes no sense folks, but then again, we are the ones who elected them — true or false? ...But not so, for the man that found the solution to the four-year old neglect, an elected representative who started making contact with the agencies who had the necessary tools to finally help fix the problem.
A “no-nonsense” man that voiced the concerns of his constituents and demanded loud enough that it attracted the attention of the many around the world. I for one, want to thank the honorable Assemblyman Devon Mathis, representing the 26th District for a job well done.
I want to remind residents in the 26th District, that elections are coming up, and if they do nothing else, vote!
Support and vote for the man that acknowledged that it’s not about just paying taxes, but that it’s about doing the job that the people elected him to do. Assemblyman Mathis was here for us, let’s be there for him.
