Bret Harmon, who left his position as the finance director for the City of Lindsay to become the court financial officer for the Tulare County Superior Court in Visalia, announced in an e-mail Monday that he is returning to the Allamerica City.

“It is an honor and privilege to let you know Bill Zigler, city manager of the City of Lindsay, has welcomed me back as the city’s finance director and city clerk,” Harmon said in the e-mail.

Harmon, who started working in Lindsay on Jan. 1, 2017, left his position on March 1 of this year.

Harmon said the main reason for leaving his position as the court financial officer is because he didn’t think it was a good fit.

“People with experience working in court administration kept telling me court administration is a different world from city administration, and one cannot appreciate the difference until experiencing it,” Harmon said.

Harmon said he fell in love with local government administration while in graduate school a little more than 15 years ago because of “the difference one can make in a community, to lift people and to help people enjoy the place they live, work or play.”

He added that although the court offers the opportunity to protect freedoms and to ensure everyone has equal access to justice, he believes his true calling is in local government.

“Both are noble purposes and offer fulfilling careers,” Harmon said, adding that after only a short time he, “Realized my heart is drawn far more strongly to local government than to court administration despite how impressed I was by everyone I met at the court. They do great work and do it very well.”

He continued, “So, I learned from the experience, took away great practices and returned to Lindsay. There is still much work to do in Lindsay. I am excited to be a part of it once again.”
