MHS baseball tops TUHS

Monache High School baseball came away with a 1-0 shutout of Tulare Union in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League game at home.

On the mound, the Marauders’ Ricky Alba threw 82 pitches with one walk and a strikeout for the win. At the plate Lane Page had an Rbidouble. Portervill­e 12 Mission Oak 8

Portervill­e High School baseball came back from a 6-0 firstinnin­g deficit to beat Mission Oak 12-8 on the road in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League game.

At the plate CJ Fish had four hits, Derek Harris had three and Jonthony Torres had two. The Panthers scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning for the win.

Noah Munoz got the start on the mound, throwing four innings for the no decision. Ricky Carranza pitched three innings in relief to get the win.

SOFTBALL

Lindsay 13 Granite Hills 3

Lindsay High School softball beat Granite Hills 13-3 in Wednesday’s East Sequoia League game at home.

For the Cardinals, Marina Ornelas went 3-for4 with a grand slam, a triple and eight RBIS. Jalissa Estrada went 3-for-4 with four RBIS.

In the circle Danielle Jauregui had eight strikeouts.

“Defense is starting to come together,” LHS head coach Izzy Torres said. “Team played very well.”

GHHS head coach Rosalinda Campos said, “We made a lot of defensive errors. We didn’t bring our A-game and Lindsay took advantage of that.”

On Friday, Lindsay travels to Woodlake while Granite Hills hosts Strathmore. Both games are at 4 p.m. Monache 9 Tulare Union 0

Monache High School shutout Tulare Union 9-0 in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League opener on the road.

Chloe Rivas got the start and the win. She allowed just four hits while striking out 12.

The Marauders had a total of 16 hits with Taliann Hunter going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIS to lead the team. Jessenia Castillo went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIS while Rivas had two hits, a double and two RBIS.

“We played a good game,” MHS head coach Dave Koontz said. “They’re a good young team and we did what we’re supposed to do... They’re proving to me we have one of the better offenses in the Valley. It was a good win to start league. Now we just got to keep our eye on the prize and we’ll be fine.” PC splits doublehead­er with FCC

Portervill­e College softball split Tuesday’s Central Valley Conference doubler-header on the road 1-1 with Fresno City College.

The Lady Pirates dropped the first game 8-3 but won the second 10-8.

PC’S next game is today at Reedley College. Game time is 2 p.m.

BOYS TENNIS

Portervill­e 8 Mission Oak 1

Changes to the ladder worked in Portervill­e High School boys tennis’ favor and the Panthers beat a visiting Mission Oak team 8-1 in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League match. In the first round of league, Portervill­e won 6-3.

In singles No. 2 Adrian Remigio won 6-1, 6-2; No. 4 Juan Cerros won 6-1, 6-1; No. 5 Roman Ayon won 6-2, 6-1 and No. 6 Noah Sanchez won 6-2, 6-2. No. 3 Joseph Catalina lost his first set 6-3 but won the next one 6-2 and the tiebreaker 10-1.

The Panthers swept

the doubles with No. 1 Remigio and Josh Reagan winning 8-4, No. 2 Catalina and Cerros winning 8-1 and No. 3 Fernando Perez and Landon Sharp winning 9-7. Monache 5 Tulare Union 4

Monache High School boys tennis beat Tulare Union 5-4 in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League match in Tulare.

In singles No. 4 Arvin Sahagan won 6-2, 6-1; No. 5 Johnny Huh won 6-2, 6-2 and No. 6 Mike Cha won 6-1, 6-2.

The Marauders took of the doubles matches with Sage Martinez and Sahagan winning 8-5 while Nick Nuno and Angel Cabrera won the No. 3 match 8-3.

BOYS GOLF

Portervill­e 195 Delano 264

Portervill­e High School’s boys golf team defeated Delano 195264 in Tuesday’s East Yosemite League match at Delano Golf Course.

DJ Herrera and Jarod Forrester each carded a 38 for the Panthers’ lowest scorers while Parker Jones and Tyler Jones each shot a 39. Tro-q-hill Franco finished with a 41 and Ethan Standridge had a 44. Tyler Jones birdied on the ninth-hole, Franco on the seventh and Forrester on the fifth.

“Everyone played a good round,” PHS head coach David Herrera said. “I was really impressed

with how Jarod played. He bounced back from struggling last week to tying the low round of the day with DJ. The team is steadily improving and learning how to score low even with a bad shot on the hole.”

Portervill­e is still undefeated headed into their final dual match of the season against Monache today at River Island Country Club. Match starts at 4 p.m.

T. Western 256 Monache 268

Monache High School’s boys golf team fell 256268 to Tulare Western in Tuesday’s East Yosemite League match at River Island Golf Course.

Austin Thompson led all scorers with a 45. Braeden Sanders shot a 47, Nash Wobrock a 48, Julian Andrade a 63, Michael Hobbs a 65 and Dom Cortez a 66.

“Today was a good allaround team effort as we shot a season low 268,” MHS head coach Jake Winter said. “Unfortunat­ely it wasn’t enough as Tulare Western had a good day and shot 256. Julian Andrade got his first ever birdie on hole [nine]. He hit another 8-iron that was tracking to the hole but this one came up 8-feet short and then he made the putt.”

Winter added, “Our first goal was to get under 275. Now that the boys see that they are there, our next goal is to get to 250.”
