Cardinals blank Grizzlies

The Lindsay High School baseball team is on a three-game winning streak after shutting out Granite Hills 15-0 in Friday’s East Sequoia League game at home.

The Cardinals David Jimenez was the winning pitcher after going four innings with three hits, five strikeouts and no walks. It was a combined shutout with Isaiah Duran finishing the last three innings with six strikeouts, one wallk and no hits.

At the plate Lindsay’s Cameron Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBIS and one run. Ernie Bautista went 2-for-2 with two RBIS and a run scored while Alex Jara was 1-for1 with two runs scored and an RBI. Edgar Silva had a triple and 2 RBIS.

Lindsay is now 8-10 on the overall season and 4-2 in the ESL.

SOFTBALL

Monache 11 Mission Oak 1

Monache High School’s Chloe Rivas had 11 strikeouts in the Maruaders’ 11-1 six-inning win over Mission Oak at home in Friday’s East Yosemite League softball game.

Jessenia Castillo was one of the team’s top hitters with a double, a single and four RBIS while Taliann Hunter had a double, a single and three RBIS. Rivas went 2-for-3 with two RBIS, a walk and was hit by a pitch. Kailyn

Castle went 2-for-3 with an RBI and MHS head coach Dave Koontz said the freshman has continued to earn her spot as the team’s leadoff hitter.

He added that Rivas pitched well and the one run scored was unearned. The Marauders have yet to give up an earned run in EYL play.

“Very happy with them,” Koontz said. “The kids are really a good team... we are dominating. We’re playing well.”

As a CIF Central Section Division I team, Koontz acknowledg­ed that Monache (16-2, 2-0 EYL) is playing against younger, developing teams in the EYL but they still have work to do to “keep them at this level.”

Spartans swim past Grizzlies

Strathmore High School’s boys and girls swim teams swept Granite Hills 199-92 in total team scores in Thursday’s East Sequoia League meet in Strathmore.

The Spartans girls team won every event with Sam Dieterle winning both the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes 29.51 seconds) and the 500 free (6:26.25) while Aimee Alarcon won both the 200 indvidual medley (2:36.28) and the 100 butterfly (1:07.11).

Paulina Cemo took first in the 100 free (1:07.10), Daniella De La Cruz was first in the 50 free (32.12), Tisha Tolentino won the 100 backstroke (1:13.06) and Kylee Blackwell came first in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:38.49) In the relays Tolentino, Blackwell, Alarcon and Dieterle combined to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:16.22) while the 200 free team of Cemo, Alarcon, Tolentino and Dieterle won the relay with a time of 2:01.22. In the 400 free relay Mykah Garcia, Lauren Cometa, Elizabeth Carr, Citolai Romero took first with a time of 5:12.31.

For the Spartan boys Moses Bower took first in both the 200 free (2:13.22) and the 100 fly (1:03.21) while Ashton King won the 200 IM (2:24.22) and 100 back (1:05.52).

In the relays Bower and King teamed up with Cotter Ashcraft and Owen Patterson to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.29. Ashcraft and Bower, along with Jacob Watson and Cody Allen, were also a part of the 200 free relay team (1:46.05) that took first.

Granite Hills first-place finishers were Sal Ibarra in the 50 free (24.86), Jose Lopez in the 100 free (56.72) and Juan Lopez in the 500 free (6:00.08). Both Juan and Jose Lopez, along with Ibarra and Andrew Hagedorn, also won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:55.86.
