Lindsay High School baseball cruised to a 17-5 lopsided victory over Woodlake in Wednesday’s East Sequoia League game at home. With the win, the Cardinals move to 9-10 on the overall season and 5-2 in the ESL.

Lindsay scored in every inning but an eightrun second inning put the win away early for the team.

“It was a good situation where we could get David Jimenez out of the game early and bring in Angel Perez to pitch,” LHS head coach Brett Kendig said. “Angel’s been struggling a little bit and we needed to get him on the mound. He still struggled some today, hitting batters for some reason. We need to figure out what we need to do. And then we’ve got Julio Godoy, came in two innings. He’s a quality pitcher but we just haven’t had an opportunity to get him in.”

Along with being the Cardinals’ winning pitcher, Jimenez was the team’s top hitter after going 2-for-2 with three RBIS and two runs scored. Edgar Silva went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored while Isaiah Duran was 1-for-2 with four runs scored.

Kendig said Ryan Scheufele will start on the mound in Friday’s game at Woodlake and Jimenez will be available to the Cardinals since he only needed 30 pitches to get the win. Strathmore 8 Granite Hills 2

Strathmore High School baseball clinched a play-off berth with a solid 8-2 home victory over Granite Hills Wednesday. Adam Saleh pitched four strong innings for the win.

At the plate, William Reece went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored. Jacob Flores, Josue “Jackie” Topete and Matthew Brown each had two hits, with Flores getting an Rbidouble. Noah Alcantar and John Leal each had 2 RBIS as well.

For Granite Hills Jason Alvarez went 2-for-3 with an Rbi-double.

The two teams square off again on Friday at Granite Hills.
