Portervill­e High School Athletic Hall of Fame

This is the first in a series of stories about the 2018 inductees for the Portervill­e High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Eddie Ramos will be joining a long list of well-deserved nominees in Portervill­e High School’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, April 28, at the Portervill­e Veterans Building.

Tickets are now on sale at Portervill­e’s activities window with the cost being $50 per ticket or $300 for a table of eight. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m. No tickets will be sold at the door.

This year’s inductees will be: Shane Snow (football, basketball), Jennifer Borror (water www.recorderon­line.com polo, basketball, soccer, track), Todd Pixler (track), Julie Botts (swimming) and the 2003 Valley champion girls basketball team. Former coaches Rich Rankin and Diane Rankin will also be inducted. Rich Rankin was also a basketball player and is now the Portervill­e Unified School District’s athletic director.

Ramos, who graduated in 1993, excelled in both football and wrestling at PHS. His natural athletic ability and raw talent made him a force to be reckoned with, whether it was on the gridiron or on the mat. During his fouryear tenure at PHS, Ramos accumulate­d many achievemen­ts and accolades, including being named MVP in football PAGE 1B his freshman year and MVP for wrestling his senior year, KTIP Athlete of the Week in 1992, and Athlete of the Week for The Portervill­e Recorder and The Visalia Times-delta.

Ramos was well known for breaking Portervill­e High School’s record for the longest run for a touchdown — 93 yards during his senior year. This record was previously held by Tiny Hill, who ran for 86 yards in 1955.
