Alice S. Ramos

-

Those who knew Alicia were inspired by her infectious personality. Whether caring for her own family, or the many laborers she tended to, Alicia spent her life serving others. Alicia S. Ramos was born on August 28, 1936, in Jimenez, jexico, to Ramiro Serrano and Catalina Candia Soto. On jay 14,1956, she married Carl S. Ramos in Las Cruses, New jexico and Carl persuaded his bride to head west - to his hometown, Porterville.

In 1962, they purchased a labor camp in nearby Terra Bella. Alicia made sure to provide hot showers, and homecooked meals for the farm laborers they boarded. Carl and Alicia continued helping those in need as labor contractors for the growing local citrus industry.

She touched so many lives in the 60's -offering many immigrants their first stateside job, a place to live, and meals - that for over 35 years, she was regularly visited by hundreds of former laborers offering their thanks for that early opportunity.

Despite serving the laborers and working alongside Carl in the orange groves, Alicia always made sure her own family came first. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.

A well-stocked refrigerator and knack for preparing a quick home cooked meal were her recipe for growing friendships - sharing stories over food and leaving everyone smiling.

She loved to dance and sing. She loved jexican music, shinning clothes and bright red lipstick.

She always reminded us how to make tamales on Christmas eve.

Oozing with pride when she became a US citizen in 1980, she must have made 100 calls to let everyone know she could now vote!

Whether out of love or because she was brainwashed, Alicia rooted for Carl's San Francisco teams - the 49ers and Giants. She even got to meet Joe jontana in the '80s. She rarely missed a professional soccer match or her favorite novelas and noticias. She kept her mind sharp with daily crossword puzzles and attended mass on Sunday where she would say her rosary. Her faith was strong and she always prayed for others.

Alicia touched so many lives in such a positive way, especially her family. Her joy was to see her family and friends happy, healthy, and safe. She will be dearly missed and may she rest in peace .... love you forever!
