White River Prospectors, the Porterville Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America, meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Gold Hills Clubhouse at 720 E. Worth Dr. in Porterville. The meetings, and membership in the chapter, are free and open to the public. Members participate in gold panning, prospecting, metal detecting, outings and informative meetings. Teaching opportunities are also available. WEDNESDAY The American Legion Post 20 and Legion Riders Chapter 20 meets every first and third Wednesday of the month at the Veteran’s Memorial Building at 1900 W. Olive Avenue. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and the Legion Riders meeting begins at 6 p.m. followed by the American Legion Post meeting at 7 p.m. The third Wednesday features a potluck dinner. TUESDAY The Porterville farmers market will start Tuesday, June 5, and will run through Tuesday, July 10 at Sierra View Medical Center. The market will start up again on Tuesday, July 17 and will run until Tuesday, Aug. 21 at Porterville City Hall. The market will run from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. the market will accept EBT, WIC, and SVMC’S Healthy Bucks. The market will also accept Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers. Interested farmers can apply at www. visalifarmersmarket.com. TUESDAY Tulare County Resource Family Approval, previously known as Foster Care Licensing, offers orientations twice per month for prospective Resource families. Orientations are held from 6 to 9 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays at the Professional Development Center, 4031 W. Noble Ave. Entrance is at the bottom of the two-story building next to Employment Connection. Orientations are held on the second floor. The door will be locked at 6 p.m. People who are interested in helping will need to attend one orientation meeting, and meet requirements such as being at least 18 years old, being financially able to support their own family, having no criminal record and a clear health screening and being certified in CPR and first aid.
