Porterville native interns with AMVC
AMVC Management Services, a diversified swine management company, recently welcomed Amanda Farquharson, daughter of Ed and Stacy Farquharson of Porterville, to Iowa for a swine production internship.
Farquharson will be spending her summer gaining knowledge and hands-on experience in many areas of hog farming to complement her dual degree in animal science and agricultural communications.
“This internship has taught me how to produce hogs on a large scale and the importance of always looking ahead toward the future impact of your decisions today,” said Farquharson, a sophomore at Oklahoma State University.
Throughout her 10week internship, she will be working at a breed-towean sow farm in Iowa to acquire knowledge about the various tasks involved in raising pigs. She will also be interacting with AMVC staff and veterinarians as part of her summer experience.
Farquharson, who aspires to pursue a career in the pork industry, says the internship has expanded her knowledge of swine production.
“Amanda has only been here a few weeks, but she has already established herself as a fundamental member of the AMVC team. I’m anxious to watch the summer unfold and to see Amanda excel within the farm and her passion continue to grow,” said Jennifer Looker, AMVC recruiter.
This summer AMVC is hosting 12 interns located in three different states across their swine production system. AMVC Management Services is headquartered in Audubon, Iowa, and manages 135,500 sows across eight states.
