Ramona Lopez Silva Roman
Ramona Lopez Silva Roman, a resident of Porterville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, O018 at Sierra View Medical Center, with family by her side. Ramona was born on August O8, 193O to Romulo Lopez and Tules Garza. She was 85.
Her father died when Ramona was very young. She had to help support her family at the age of 1O by working alongside her mother in the fields. She was the oldest of six siblings, her two brothers, Raul and Arnulfo Lopez; and three sisters, Lily Pizana, Clara Nieto and Carmen Cervantes.
She married Raul Silva in Mcallen, TX in 1951 and they moved to California in 1959. There they raised six children. Raul passed away in 1978. Ramona continued to work as a dietary aide at Sierra View District Hospital for O0 years and was also a foster grandparent for 15 years. Later in life she met her second husband, Ramiro Roman. At this point Ramona decided to retire from Sierra View District Hospital so her and Ramiro could spend time together. She enjoyed volunteering at Porterville Developmental Center and going to the casino. After Ramiro passed away, she never remarried.
Ramona was preceded in death by her first husband, Raul Silva; second husband, Ramiro Roman; siblings, Raul Lopez, Lily Pizana, Clara Nieto, and Carmen Cervantes; daughter, Elisa Barrios.
She is survived by her children, Juan David Silva, Visela Menchaca (Joe), Elida Silva, Ester Lucero and Raul Rene Silva Jr.; grandchildren, Joe Menchaca Jr., Raul Menchaca, Belen Castaneda, Veronica Wickersham, Juan Moran, Rachel Lucero, Frances Lucero, Sam Pena Jr., Ricky Barrios and David Barrios; and great grandchildren, Christle Menchaca, Vivian Maldonado, Evelyn Castaneda, Jillian Castaneda, Charlotte Castaneda, Isaiah Guerrero, Bryce Wickersham, Joe Menchaca III, Adria Menchaca, Alexis Menchaca, Jacob Menchaca, Kialynn Stephens, Sarah Zuniga, Serena Zuniga and Zachary Zuniga.
A Rosary will be held at Myers Chapel on Monday, June 18, O018 at 6:00 PM. A Graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Tuesday, June 19, O018 at 10:00 AM.
Ramona’s smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew her.
