Porterville routs Lemoore 16-5
Win District 34 Championship
Jonathan Delgado was clutch at the plate with runners on in the Porterville 12-and-under Little League All-star’s 16-5 win over Lemoore in the California District 34 championship game Friday in Lemoore.
Delgado drove in eight runs while going 2-for3 with a grand slam, a triple and three runs scored. He also drew a bases-loaded walk for one of his RBIS.
Luis Torres drove in a run during the first inning and Porterville added another to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
However, Porterville’s offensive really got going in the second inning when the team tacked on six more runs with help from another Rbi-single from Torres, a grand slam from Delgado and error on a ball put in play by David Zamora.
Lemoore got back in the game by scoring two runs apiece in the second and third innings to cut Porterville’s lead to 8-4 but Porterville’s bats continued to stay hot and the team scored two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Lemoore could only manage one more run in the fourth.
Johnny Goss got the start on the mound and only surrendered two runs on one hit while striking out three through 1 1/3 innings. He was relieved by Greg Franco who went 2 2/3 innings with three runs scored on one hit and one
walk. Franco also tallied six strikeouts. Zamora closed the game and gave up no runs, on no hits and five strikeouts. Only three of Lemoore’s runs were earned.
Delgado was a big hitter for Porterville but definitely not the only one. Torres went 3-for5 with three RBIS and three runs scored. Zamora had one hit but scored two runs and had two RBIS. Colton Isom also had a hit and scored three runs while Matthew Vargas also tallied an RBI.
11U: Porteville dominant in win over Exeter
Jose Perez wasted no opportunities at the plate and drove in six runs on three hits to lead the Porterville 11-and-under Little League All-stars past Exeter 14-6 to claim the California District 34 Championship title in Wednesday’s game in Corcoran.
Perez went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, triple and the six RBIS, but a number of bats were on fire for Porterville with the team racking up 20 hits to Exeter’s nine.
Porterville opened up scoring in the first inning with an Rbi-groundout from Perez then preceded to score five more runs in the second inning for an 8-0 lead. The second inning was big thanks to Rbi-singles from Wyatt Mauldin and Giovanni Perez, as well as a two-run Rbi-double from Jose Perez and Giovanni Perez scoring on a throw.
Porterville’s lead held throughout the rest of the game with three runs in the third inning and then two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings for a total of 14 runs.
Two of Porterville’s biggest hitters were Francisco Aguilera who went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and Mauldin, who went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIS. Giovanni Perez went 3-for-5 with three RBIS, three runs scored and a double while Horacio Nunez finished with three RBIS and a hit. Also scoring a run for Porterville was Jacoby Roman and Cade Correa while Dominic Perez scored two. Roman also went 2-for-3.
Giovanni Perez led Porterville to victory on the mound. He lasted six innings — allowing six runs on nine hits, five strikeouts and no walks. Exeter scored three runs in the third inning, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
“Throughout the whole tournament the boys battled,” Porterville head coach Jose Perez said on Friday. “They played great baseball the whole tournament. That specific game we had great pitching, great defense and great hitting.”
Porterville’s season continues mid-july when they travel to Fresno for another tournament beginning the 11th.
