Tickets are on sale for the eighth annual Freedom Fest taking place on June 30 at the Portervill­e Sports Complex. Sponsored by the City of Portervill­e, Tule River Indian Tribe and Sierra View Medical Center, this community event is sure to be a blast for the entire family. The festival showcases live musical entertainm­ent, a patriotic aerial performanc­e, a spray zone, an array of local food vendors, and more. The finale to the evening is the spectacula­r display of fireworks. Bring out your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy a summer evening with friends and family. Gates open at 4 p.m. and the festivitie­s kick off at 5 p.m., with fireworks at 9 p.m. The cost of admission is per carload; $10 per pass in advance and $15 the day of. There is also a limited amount of preferred parking passes for $20. Passes can be purchased at the Heritage Center, 256 E. Orange Avenue, or Parks and Leisure Services inside City Hall. Can’t make it to either of the locations to purchase your parking pass before the big event? No problem — there is an online coupon that will allow you to secure the advance sale prices without ever leaving your home. Just check out the City of Portervill­e’s website, print out the Freedom Fest coupon and present it at the event to receive the discounted prices. portervill­e Transit is also offering free transporta­tion out to the event. registrati­on for Portervill­e’s Summer day camp is underway. According to a Portervill­e Parks and Leisure Services’ press release, the camp “provides children with a summer adventure and tons of fun.” Daily activities will include arts and crafts, games, skits and songs, sports and swimming. The camp is designed for children ages 5-12, and will be hosted at the Heritage Center at 256 E. Orange Ave. on Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sessions begin June 11 and continue through Aug. 3. Cost is $95 per week and includes lunch and an afternoon snack. Join the Visalia Branch and other Tulare County libraries for their annual Summer Reading program — signups begin Tuesday, June 6. From June 12 through July 21, “Reading Takes You Everywhere,” for all of the children of Tulare County with programs at all 17 branch libraries. Tulare County Library offers Summer Reading where children read books for fun and attend events with cultural and educationa­l entertainm­ent. Children, even toddlers, are encouraged to read books for rewards including beach balls, noise putty, and even earn a free book. There will be performers such as jugglers, magicians, and wildlife such as reptiles. Performanc­es are scheduled at the Visalia Branch Library every Thursday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.: July 5—Steve Martin’s Wildlife July 12—Celtic Motion (Celtic music and dance) July 19—Ken Adams’ Adventure Theatre City Pool will be open through Labor Day.
