Lyft driver suspected of stabbing passenger in San Diego

San Diego Police say a Lyft driver was arrested on allegation­s he stabbed and injured a passenger during a fight.

Officer Robert Heims says the driver argued with three passengers after they were unable to give him a drop-off location early Sunday.

Heims says the driver ordered the passengers out of the car and then allegedly stabbed one of them as the fight continued near the University of San Diego.

The victim, a 27-yearold man, was hospitaliz­ed with non-life-threatenin­g injuries.

City News Service reports the 33-year-old suspect was held in lieu of $30,000 bail.

Sacramento man gets 10 years for seeking sex with minor

A Sacramento man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after authoritie­s say he placed an online advertisem­ent looking for a mother who would let him have sex with her daughter.

The Sacramento Bee reports 59-year-old George Hristovski was sentenced Friday in Sacramento federal court for attempted enticement of a minor.

According court documents, Hristovski placed an ad on Craigslist encouragin­g Sacramento­area mothers interested in teaching their daughters about sex to reach out to him.

An undercover agent from the Placer County Sheriff's Department responded aauthoriti­es say Hristovski repeatedly asked for pornograph­ic photos of the fake mother and daughter and sought to perform sexual acts with the minor.

Hristovski was arrested in August 2014.

Volunteers reunite cats lost in California wildfires

Volunteers have reunited about 300 cats that were left behind when wildfires burned through Northern California wine country in October.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports the Sonoma & Napa Fires Pet Rescue and Reunificat­ion group was trapping about 20 so-called fire cats each week in the months following the blazes that Killed dozens of people and destroyed thousands of homes.

The group is now catching about one cat each week with its efforts focused on more rural areas.

Becky Basque, a volunteer in the Riebli-wallace area, says most people “assumed their pet was dead.”

Most of the reunited fire cats were caught near the sites of their homes. The group has reunited the animals through Facebook groups.

Man sentenced for deadly jewelry store robbery

A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for a 2014 robbery in the San Francisco Bay Area that his left his 20-year-old accomplice dead.

The East Bay Times reports Trai Jones was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to robbery and assault charges.

Prosecutor­s had charged Jones with murder for the death David Carter, who was shot by the owner of the Antioch jewelry store the two attempted to rob. Prosecutor­s dropped the charge in exchange for the guilty plea.

Authoritie­s say Jones opened fire as the two entered Hardy Nix Jewelers in April 2014. A woman was also shot in the crossfire and survived.

Authoritie­s say a third accomplice was also arrested and convicted. Robert Simmons was sentenced last year to 15 years in prison.

Golden Gate Bridge tolls rising, some drivers to pay $8

Tolls on Northern California's iconic Golden Gate Bridge will cost an additional quarter.

The Marin Independen­t Journal reported Saturday that some drivers will pay as $8 each to enter San Francisco from the north starting Sunday. Drivers who lack California Fastrak accounts will pay the maximum fees. Those with accounts will pay $7 each and carpools during rush hour cost $5 per vehicle.

The increase is the last of a fare hikes scheduled over the last five years by the Golden Gate Bridge District, which maintains the span.

The district is facing a $3.9 million deficit and officials said additional increases are likely.
