Nomination period open for Nov. election

The nomination period for the Nov. 6 Statewide General Election opened this week, and there are more than 100 positions in local government and special districts in Porterville and the surrounding communities that will be on the ballot for those interested in becoming involved.

A statement released by the Tulare County Registrar of Voters Tuesday said nomination papers for candidates will be available at their office at 5951 S. Mooney Blvd. in Visalia until 5 p.m. on Aug. 10.

They also added that some offices up for election require nomination signatures, which are gathered during the nomination period, July 16 to Aug. 10.

The offices for which nomination papers are available for Porterville and surrounding communities are as follows:

City of Porterville — four Council Members (Areas 1 and 2)

City of Lindsay — two Council Members

Unified School Districts

Porterville Unified — four Board Member (Areas 3, 4, 5 and 7), one Board member short term for Area 1

Lindsay Unified — three Board Members (Areas 1, 2 and 5)

Elementary School Districts

Alta Vista — two Board Members (Areas 3 and 5)

Burton — three Board Members (Areas 1, 3 and 4), one Board Member short term for Area 5
