Porterville’s Project Review Committee met Wednesday to discuss two new business projects located in town.

The first business up for discussion was “Glam Chic,” a women’s clothing store opening up on Main Street.

There were few comments for the “Glam Chic” representative Jovita Castaneda. The biggest concern the committee had was making sure that no permits would be needed for construction inside the building.

The committee also clarified that any counter tops that will be put in the shop must be ADA approved and wheel chair accessible. Jenni Byers, Porterville’s Community Development Director, expressed concern towards the lack of parking for the future business as well.

The second and final matter up for discussion was the application for construction of a new 2,100 squarefoot retail flower shop.

The proposed blueprint for the building was initially rejected as it did not comply with the downtown design guidelines. With some discussion the decision to move the building adjacent to the street was made, which then put the future plan in compliance with the guidelines.

The committee made it known that the sidewalks around the business lot will need to be fixed as well as light posts needing to be put in. Along with the light posts, some landscaping will need to be done and some trees will have to be planted.

Fire Marshall Mitch Sandoval clarified that the future building would not need fire sprinklers as will not be big enough.

Alma Mejia and Sam Salazar, the future flower shop owners, were both present and thrilled to see the project finally get going, as it has been many years in the making.
