Council to consider more school resource officers, enlarging water projects

The City Council of Portervill­e will be presenting the employee of the month at their upcoming meeting on Tuesday.

Adelino Espejo will be acknowledg­ed for all the hard work he has provided for the City of Portervill­e. Espejo began his service with the City July 11, 2011, as a laboratory technician for the Public Works Department, Field Services Division. His job duties include testing and monitoring City and private-owned wells to ensure the quality and safety of drinking water. He also monitors the proper scientific performanc­e of the wastewater treatment plant operations.

Following the presentati­on, reports from the Council, City Staff and various City Committees will be given.

The Parks and Leisure Services Commission will report on their summer hiatus, followed by reports from the Library and Literacy Commission, Arts Commission, Animal Control Commission and Youth Commission. Wrapping up the commission­s reports will be Transactio­ns and Use Tax Oversight Committee (TUTOC).

The City Staff will then update the Council about the status of Water Conservati­on Phase III.

The consent calender for Tuesday evening includes 16 items. One of these items is considerat­ion for the approval of enlarging the Plano Water Replacemen­t Project and Concrete Curb Ramp Project by $250,000. The extra funds for these projects will be taken from the current local transporta­tion funds.

The consent calendar also includes the possible approval of a joint funding agreement with both Portervill­e Unified and Burton school districts to provide two new school resource officers for the 2018/2019 school year.

The council will be discussing their options in regards to the election of the District 2 council member during the scheduled matters portion of the meeting.

Currently representi­ng District 2 is

Mayor Milt Stowe. Stowe is also the only candidate up for election to represent District 2 on the November ballot.

The City Council meeting will be open to the public beginning at 6:30 p.m. located in the Portervill­e City Hall at 291 N. Main Street on August 21.
