The Central California Family Crisis Center (Porterville Emergency Shelter) is hosting its annual fundraising event at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, at the Grand Avenue Methodist Church located at 776 W. Grand Ave. in Porterville.
The event “Sunday Social for the Shelter” will include dinner, dessert auction, and a drawing for prizes. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for Children under 12.
For over four decades the Family Crisis Center has Maintained excellence in its programs aimed at elminating domestic violence and homelessness in our community.
Several programs offered through the Family Crisis Center are funded by government and private grants, however, many of the day-to-day operational expenses are outside of grant constraints. Last year the shelter and transitional housing apartments served nearly 300 clients, sadly 100 of those clients were children. The business center at Putnam and Main serves clients by appoitment as well as walk-in clients. The center provides legal advocacy, individual counseling, parenting groups, anger management groups, and a very active Batterers Intervention Program. The business center also houses a HUD permanent supportive housing program and a rapid re-housing program. The center keeps extremely busy throughout the week.
