Spartans fall 8-1 to Panthers
The Strathmore High School girls tennis team lost 8-1 on the road to Corcoran Tuesday in the Spartans’ first East Sequoia League match of the season.
The team’s lone win came in the No. 2 doubles match where Neha Reddy and Abby Miller defeated their opponents 8-5.
Independence 8 Monache 1
Monache High School girls tennis lost 8-1 to Bakersfield’s Independence High School Tuesday on the road in a nonleague match.
No. 1 Maddie Giannetto had the team’s lone victory with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in singles.
FOOTBALL
Strathmore 52 Parlier 12
The Strathmore High School football team picked up their second win of the season Friday with a 52-12 victory at Parlier in a matchup between the two CIF Central Section Division VI teams.
Leading the Spartans (2-0) in stats once again was senior Alonso Acevedo who rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns on four carries. Sophomore Javier Garcilazo rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns while junior quarterback Cristian Rodriguez and freshman running back Carlos Moreno also had a touchdown each.
Through the air, Rodriguez completed 7-of12 passes for 127 yards
with an interception.
Junior Lee Navarro and senior Tommy Henry each also recovered a fumble.
Lindsay 46 Morro Bay 0
Lindsay High School football shutout CIF Central Section Divsion III Morro Bay 46-0 in Friday’s non-league game at Frank Skadan Stadium in Lindsay.
Junior running back Daniel Trujillo rushed for 136 yards and four
touchdowns on 15 carries to lead the Cardinals. Junior quarterback Ethan Natera completed 14-of-21 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Angel Perez and junior Mario Diaz combined for 166 receiving yards and two touchdowns each.
Defensively, sophomore Nick Dunning had two interceptions and Diaz had one. Sophomore Nicholas Halstrom also had a sack.
GIRLS WATER POLO Panthers go 1-2 at tourney
Porterville High
School girls water polo won one out of three games in Friday and Saturday’s Central Valley Showdown Tournament hosted by Clovis West High School.
In their first game, Porterville defeated Buchanan 12-11 but lost 12-3 to Clovis and 8-7 to Clovis West in their next games.
BOYS WATER POLO Panthers 1-1 at tourney
Porterville High School boys water polo defeated Madera South 16-0 Friday but lost 13-8 to Edison Saturday at the
Fresno Kickoff Classic tournament hosted by Fresno and Edison High School over the weekend.
Spartans break even
Strathmore High School boys water polo won two games and lost two games over the weekend at the Fresno Kickoff Classic tournament hosted by Fresno and Edison High School over the weekend.
On Friday, Strathmore defeated Sierra Pacific 12-7 but lost 16-5 to Edison. In Saturday’s games, the Spartans lost 12-9 to Reedley before beating Sanger 11-9.
