The Tule River Historical Museum is open to the public from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays with no admission charge. The museum houses a collection of vintage lumber mill and farm equipment. Antiques from local families are on display in the 1860 Murphy House and in the main museum. Paws in the Pool. Let your four-legged friend take a dip in the City Pool. Join Parks & Leisure Services for ‘Paws in the Pool’ on September 8. Your pup is invited to a swim party for a much deserved cool off after a hot summer in a heavy coat. 9 -11:30 a.m. for large dogs over 25 lbs. 11:30-1 p.m. for small dogs under 25 lbs. Sunday Social for the Shelter. The Central California Family Crisis Center (Porterville Emergency Shelter) is hosting its annual fundraising event at 4:30 pm Sunday, September 9, at the Grand Avenue Methodist Church, located at 776 W. Grand Avenue, Porterville. The “Sunday Social for the Shelter” will include dinner, dessert auction, and drawing for prizes. Tickets are $30 for adults, and $15 for children under 12. will sponsor the NAMI Family-to-family Education Program specifically for families of persons diagnosed with a serious mental illness. The 12 session series of classes will start in Porterville on Wednesday September 19, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8:30p.m. and run trhough November. The course will cover information about schizophrenia, the mood disorders (bipolar and major depression), panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); coping skills such as handling crises and relapse; basic information about medications; listening and communication techniques; problemsolving skills; recovery and rehabilitation; and self-care around worry and stress. Porterville Art Association presents “A Night to Remember” fundraiser event at Nuckols Ranch, 13144 Rd 216, Porterville , from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The dinner event will feature entertainment by music and dance groups, art display, wine tasting, chocolate sampling, silent auction and a reverse drawing prize of $1,000. Coming to America. Ela Pandya will share her experiences of moving from India. The talk will take place in the Historical Room in the Public Library from 10:30 to 12:00, February 9.
