Residents duped again by In-n-out sign prank
A sign claiming an In-n-out restaurant was coming to town fooled many Porterville residents Thursday, especially those driving near the corner of State Route 190 and South Jaye Street, where the sign hung from the fence of Aldi’s grocery store, where construction continues.
Not too long ago, a similar sign displaying “In-n-out Burger, Here Soon” displayed near the old Starbucks location next to Office Depot fooled community residents as well.
On both occasions, the signs turned out to be pranks, leading residents to believe they will soon be enjoying food from the restaurant’s renowned menu like doubledouble burgers and animal style fries.
Sources say pranksters constructed the sign and have been using it to fool people.
The sign displaying the bright red and yellow In-n-out colors was posted on a temporary chain-link fence where construction on Aldi’s is taking place, making it even more believable.
There were pictures posted on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook of people reacting to the sign.
“When I spotted the sign, the first thing that came to my mind was a double-double burger,” said Porterville resident Maribel Cervantes, who was upset to find out it was a prank. “I was sad, but hopefully we get an In-n-out soon here in town.”
Cervantes said she had already informed her family about the restaurant opening soon.
“Pranks like this can really hurt someone’s feelings,” Cervantes added. “I feel like my feelings were played because I love In-n-out.”
An In-n-out representative confirmed there are no plans of a restaurant opening in Porterville anytime soon.
