Marauders sweep Trailblaze­rs

Both Monache High School’s boys and girls water polo teams returned from Visalia with wins Thursday evening after taking down the Trailblaze­rs of Golden West in non-league victories.

Already on a threegame winning streak, the Marauders (9-3) girls defeated the Trailblaze­rs (1-3) 16-3 to pick up their fourth-straight win, as well as their third straight in which they allowed their opponents just three goals.

Ava Lobue led Monache with five goals and Kalina Weaver finished with three. Both Emily Chapman and Emily Adame had two goals apiece while Regan Azevedo, Maddy Chapman and Katie Land had one goal each. In at goalkeeper for the game was Claire Schrein who had six saves.

Om Tuesday, Sept. 25, Monache begins East Yosemite League play on the road at Tulare Union. Last season the Marauders were CO-EYL champions.

Monache’s boys team held Golden West (0-3) to six goals for a 12-6 win and the Marauders’ second win of the season.

Leading Monache in scoring was Nick Taylor with seven goals followed by Danan Weisenberg­er with four and Ian

Azevedo with one.

Before they start East Yosemite League play on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Tulare Union, the Marauders will head back to Visalia on Friday, Sept. 21, for the first day of a tournament hosted by Golden West.

GIRLS TENNIS Tulare Western 6 Portervill­e 3

Portervill­e High School's girls tennis team lost 6-3 to Tulare Western at home in Thursday's East Yosemite League match.

In singles, No. 3 Sierra Mitchel won 6-1, 6-2 and No. 5 Erica Palad won 6-2, 6-4. The Panthers lone win in doubles came from No. 3 Zeila Rivera and Hannah Walker winning 8-3.

GIRLS GOLF Tulare Western 281 Portervill­e 316

Portervill­e High School's girls golf team lost 281-316 to Tulare

Western in an East Yosemite League match Thursday.

For the Panthers, Angela Eugene shot a 56, Dora Jimenez a 63, Kayla Johnson a 63, Aunika Marquez a 66, Uniese Carrillo a 68 and Emily True an 82.

“I was excited for the girls today, they dropped 53 strokes from Tuesday,” PHS head coach David Herrera said. “I am very proud of how the girls bounced back from Tuesday's round. We identified what we needed to work on and focused our time yesterday on that.”

VOLLEYBALL Portervill­e 3 Lemoore 0

Portervill­e College volleyball defeated West Hills-lemoore 3-0 on the road Wednesday to open Central Valley Conference play with a win.

The Pirates won the sets 25-19, 25-15 and 2516.

Portervill­e travels to Fresno City College tonight for a 6 p.m. CVC match.
