Family literacy day

In celebratio­n of Adult Literacy Awareness Month the Portervill­e City Library's Adult Learning Center invites literacy tutors, adult learners, and their families along with the community to a special Family Literacy Day on Saturday, September 22, from 11:00 am- 2:00 pm at the Centennial Park.

September has been proclaimed Adult Literacy Awareness Month. The focus of the month is to expand awareness about the need for adult literacy services in our communitie­s and to recruit new tutors and other volunteers to support those programs. The celebratio­n also reminds us that we all have a chance to change a life for the better.

Activities will include: Face painting, Rock Climbing, Raffles and Music. Hot Dogs, Chips, and Refreshmen­ts. City of Portervill­e - Community Developmen­t informatio­n and giveaways. Galaxy Theatre – Informatio­n, poster and popcorn giveaway. Family Health Care – Blood Pressure screening informatio­n and giveaways. Friends of the Library - Free books. Portervill­e Library - Informatio­n and Spin ‘n' Win Wheel. Portervill­e Police Department – Bicycle, pedestrian safety and crime prevention informatio­n and giveaways. Wells Fargo Bank- Financial wellness informatio­n and giveaways. Anthem Blue Cross- Medical health plan informatio­n and giveaways.
