FBI adds LA man to 10 Most Wanted list
LOS ANGELES — A man wanted on suspicion of an armed sexual assault in Los Angeles last year was added Thursday to the FBI'S list of Ten Most Wanted Fugitives.
The FBI also announced a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading directly to the arrest of Greg Alyn Carlson, 46, who detectives believe is likely responsible for additional sexual assaults.
"Greg Alyn Carlson joins the notorious Top Ten list because he is considered an enemy to the public and we believe his violence may escalate," Paul D. Delacourt, assistant director in charge of the FBI'S Los Angeles field office, said in a statement.
Authorities say Carlson committed a burglary on July 13, 2017, during which he attempted to sexually assault a woman while using a weapon.
In September 2017, he was charged with assault with intent to commit rape, assault with a deadly weapon and burglary, and he was arrested by Los Angeles police.
Carlson posted bond and was released, then fled to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The FBI said investigators believe he then left the state in a car with a stolen gun and a significant amount of cash.
He was spotted in Hoover, Alabama, on Nov. 22, 2017, and led police on a high-speed chase, but officers called off the pursuit because of danger to the public.
Carlson was then spotted in Florida, first in Jacksonville on Nov. 28, 2017, and in Daytona Beach two days after that.
He was last seen in a stolen white, four-door, 2017 Hyundai Accent rental car with South Carolina license plate NKI-770.
A federal arrest warrant was issued the following month after he was charged in U.S. District Court with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Carlson could now be in any state or may have fled the country, the FBI said.
Authorities urged anyone who believes they were victimized by Carlson but did not report it at the time to call the Los Angeles Police Department.
"We believe this collaborative effort will lead to the apprehension of Greg Carlson, an individual who has viciously attacked women and threatened the public safety over the past decade," said Capt. Billy Hayes of the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division.
Investigators aren't certain how Carlson earned money, but some information suggests past work as an actor, the FBI said. In the Los Angeles area, he had past residences in suburban Santa Monica and Redondo Beach.
