San Jose Uber driver stabbed in road-rage incident on Highway 87
SAN JOSE — A 24-yearold Uber driver was stabbed at least once in the abdomen during a road-rage altercation Wednesday morning on northbound Highway 87, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Uber driver was rushed to a hospital, but the CHP did not have updated information Thursday on his condition.
The incident began at about 8:40 a.m. when the Uber driver, who was transporting a passenger in a black SUV, got into “a road rage incident” with a female driver near Capitol Expressway, according to CHP Officer Ross Lee. There was heavy traffic at the time, Lee said.
The female motorist the drove away and left the area, Lee said.
A few minutes later a male driver approached the Uber driver and there was “an exchange” between the two, Lee said. Both drivers pulled onto the shoulder of 87.
The Uber driver got out of his car and walked toward the back of his SUV, where he was met by the other drive, a man in his late 30s or early 40s, Lee said. The two had a “physical altercation” and the man stabbed the Uber driver in the abdomen.
The suspect has a full sleeve tattoo on one arm, authorities said.
“We do believe that somebody has more information,” Lee said. “People were driving by and filming with their phones. We are asking for assistance.”
The CHP said the driver had both Uber and Lyft stickers on his vehicle. However, Uber confirmed the driver was working for their company at the time of the stabbing.
