Prognosticators above .500 for Week Four after sub-par Week Three

- Porterville Recorder Publisher BILL PARSONS

Week four was a more normal week for the Pigskin Prognosticators. I was going to say it was an average week, since 5-5 was where most of the Pickers ended up at, but our Prognosticators are anything but average. Their combined total for the week was 26 and 24.

After the sub-par week three, the panel was much more on their game last week. Trying to pull away from the pack was Judy Hall. Judy said that she had given the men a chance at the top spot, but none of them seem to want it for more than a week, so she was done with them and is moving on. Judy was the only member of the panel to pick Purdue over Boston College and went 7-3 for the week. Her season-leading total is 23-15-2. Nothing average here.

Trying to hang with Judy is Porterville Mayor Milt Stowe. After being tied for first last week the mayor stumbled a bit in week four with a 5-5 record. The mayor’s downfall seems to be that he keeps picking the Cowboys and Raiders. Not that these are bad picks, but those two teams keep letting him down.

All five of our panel members were shocked when the Saints came back and beat the Falcons in one of the week’s best games. Milt’s record for the season is still on the winning side at 21-17-2. It should be a better week for the mayor, as there is not a Cowboy game on our list this week.

Suncrest Bank’s very own Gary Gostanian remains in a tie for third after also going 5-5 for the week. You may remember that Gary led for the first two weeks and then fell off in week three with a 1-8-1 (sorry Gary, I did not mean to bring that up) record. Rumor has it that Gary was just trying to be nice and let the rest of the field catch up. Now may not be the time to be nice though, as the field has closed in around you. Gary is now 19-19-2 for the year. Now may be a good time for Gary to stop being so nice and get back to his winning ways.

Like Gary, David Horowitz also went 5-5 in week four. The master of jewelry assured he was not trying to be nice, he was just trying to win the game. David did well with the college games, but the NFL let him down. All except the Cleveland Browns, who won for the first time in a long time. David picked the Browns and is now tied once again with Gary for third place overall with a 19-19-2 season record. Speaking of nice, you should stop into Horowitz Jewelry for a great deal. Remember, Christmas is coming!

Staying close to the pack and no doubt giving them false hope is the Recorder’s very own editor, Matt Sarr. Even though Matt seems mild mannered when he’s out and about covering stories for the Recorder, Matt is all about winning. I hear is his strategy is to lay back but stay close until the middle of the season, and just when everyone thinks he is out of it, he will make his move to the finish line. You are doing great Matt. With a record of 4-6 last week and a overall total of 1721-2, no one will think that you are making a move until you have flown by them. We here at the Recorder are betting on you (Well, it’s not like they’re betting their paycheck or anything like that, but it is more like they are hoping really, really hard that you will do better). We are all behind you. Kind of like how you are behind the rest of the pickers. Just kidding! You know we have faith in you. We Believe.

Well maybe I will close for now before I say something that might upset our outstanding editor or some of the other Prognosticators. Remember guys and gal, this is all in fun. We wish all of the pickers well. I would also like to thank each of them for being such good sports and allowing me each week to have some fun with them. It is because of them that we are able to bring you our readers, the Pigskin Prognosticators each week.

We also want to thank our new sponsor, Deli Delicious. For some of the best food in the Porterville area, stop by and see the find folks at Deli Delicious. You won’t leave hungry. Please let them know that you appreciate their sponsoring the Pigskin Prognosticators.

Until next time, I hope you have a blessed week!
