Association gallery is located at 151 N. Main St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and admission is free. Art work is changed every two months. Residents without air
conditioning at home or work can escape the heat at four day-time cooling centers. The Heritage Center at 256 E. Orange Ave. is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. City Hall at 291 N. Main St. is open Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Porterville Transit Center at 61 W. Oak Ave. is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The Porterville City Library at 41 W. Thurman Ave. is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Sergeant Shepherd, the new costumed mascot for the Porterville Police Department, is available to appear at youth-oriented meetings and events. The mascot’s purpose is to spread the motto — “Stand Up and Speak Out!” According to the Police Department, Shepherd will be encouraging the community to “Stand Up” for family, friends and community, and “Speak Out” against drugs, bullies and crime. The Porterville Youth
Center offers free recreation for youths during the summer. The center is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday
and is located inside the Heritage Center at 256 E. Orange Avenue. The Youth Center offers a stimulating environment for youths ages10 to 18 and there are no registration fees or monthly costs. The Youth Center’s game room features pool and pingpong tables, game consoles, foosball, board games and more. Members can also enjoy arts and crafts, organized sports and regular adventure trips. Access to the Margaret J. Slattery Children’s Library located inside the Heritage Center offers students a computer lab with Internet access. The other thing going on at the Heritage Center is Summer Day Camp. Kids ages 5-12 are supervised

Porterville Homeless Connect/ Kings Tulare
Homeless Alliance is holding a drive to collect gently used coats and winter shoes (boots, sturdy shoes and tennis shoes). the drive is currently underway and will continue through October 22. All sizes of men’s and women’s coats and shoes are needed. Children’s sizes are also needed. Coats are being collected at the Porterville Arts Association @ 151 N. Main St on Wedsat 10 AM to 4 PM.FOR more information contact Ashley Sizemore at 559-782-7460. The collected coats and shoes will be given to homeless persons on November 3, 2018

Lindsay Night Market has started for the 2018 season, and will continue through the fall. The market is held each Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Lindsay. It features food, vendors and other activities.
Main Street concert
series is held each Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Centennial Park across from City Hall. The concerts, which feature local talent, are free. Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Drive Thru Pulled Pork
Dinner. The Porterville Breakfast Lions Club have announced their Drive Thru Pulled Pork Dinner will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. Driver includes: pulled pork, beans, coleslaw, BBQ sauce, a dinner roll, and dessert. Cost is a $10 donation per meal. The meal will be held at Eagles Lodge parking lot near Henderson Ave. and Main Street. Porterville Art Association presents “A Night
to Remember” fundraiser event at Nuckols Ranch, 13144 Rd 216, Porterville , from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The dinner event will feature entertainment by music and dance groups, art display, wine tasting, chocolate sampling, silent auction and a reverse drawing prize of $1,000. Tickets are $50 per person and a portion of the proceeds will go to support the development of art programs for youth in the community. For tickets, contact Porterville Art Association at 784-4323.

Porterville Art Association’s Fundraising Event Committee will have an arts and crafts booth at the Pioneer Days event on October 13, 2018 at 259 North Main Street, Porterville, CA 93257. All ages are welcome and the activities are free. There will be six art teachers on hand to assist in our art activities. Parents/adult Caregivers must be present while children 17 and under are creating art at the booth. We look forward to another year of volunteering at the Pioneer Days event.

Meals for Missions. The 36th annual Meals for Missions dinner will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Terra Bella Sunday, October 21st. Serving hours will be between 4 and 6:30 p.m. The slow-cooked tender beef dinner is a fundraiser to help fulfil the church’s mission pledge, which helps support disaster aid and emergency medical services. Your meal includes heavenly cheese potatoes, salad, seasoned green beans, garlic bread, cake, iced tea, and coffee. Cost is $10 for adults, and $5 for children under eight. Takeout orders are available. A charming country store will feature a variety of specialty items including hand embroidered tea towels, crafts, candies, cookies, jellies, and fresh produce. Night. 1920’s Silent Movies with theater organist, Dave Moreno playing live accompaniment will be held at First Congregational Church, 165 E. Mill Ave, Porterville CA. Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Laurel & Hardy and Buster Keaton will be featured in the films. The event will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 7:00 pm.
