Monache’s Giannetto wins 3rd EYL title
Monache High School’s Maddie Giannetto won her third East Yosemite League singles championship Saturday at the girls tennis EYL championship meet hosted by Tulare Union High School.
Beginning Friday, Giannetto defeated singles players from Mission Oak (6-2, 6-3), Porterville (6-2, 6-1) and avenged a loss to top-seeded Maribel Lupercio of Tulare Western (6-0, 6-2).
“Maddie showed why she’s the best in EYL today,” MHS head coach Gary Perez said. “She was in total control today, mentally sharp and focused. She dictated play, constructed her points well and went for her shots as they presented themselves. Good way for the senior and 3-time EYL singles champ to finish her EYL career.”
With the win, Giannetto advances to the CIF Central Section Central Area tournament in two weeks at Redwood High School.
Also advancing is Porterville’s Vanessa Madrigal who finished third in singles.
Porterville’s doubles team of Sierra Mitchel and Erica Palad placed fourth to advance while Hannah Walker and Zeila Rivera took sixth and advance.
Strathmore High School’s Neha Reddy and Hennasey Mendoza took fourth and sixth place, respectively, at the East Sequoia League tournament on Friday to advance to Area as well.
The Panthers’ team also qualified for the Division III Valley tournament and begin playing on Thursday.
