Parolee arrested for possession of stolen vehicle

On Tuesday at 2:10 a.m., PPD officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of West Pioneer Avenue regarding Danny Keene, who was seen in the area.

Keen, who is on parole, was actively wanted regarding the recent thefts of two vehicles. Officers searched the area for Keene and observed him in the area of Westfield Avenue and Lotas Way.

Keene ran from officers but was located shortly thereafter hiding in the front yard of a nearby residence, and he was taken into custody without incident. One of the two stolen vehicles was also located nearby and returned to the registered owner.

Keene was booked at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department, where he is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail along with a no-bail parole hold.

Injury traffic collision north of Porterville

On Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 5:48 p.m. officers with the Porterville Police Department responded to a single vehicle injury traffic collision on Main Street near West North Grand Avenue.

Investigation revealed that Jose Torres, 18, from Lindsay, was traveling northbound on Main Street in a 2007 Dodge Caliber approaching West North Grand Avenue. Mr. Torres did not see a vehicle stopping ahead of him and he veered off the roadway onto the shoulder in order to avoid colliding with the vehicle.

As a result, Mr. Torres’ vehicle traveled into a nearby orchard where it collided with an orange tree. Torres was pinned inside and he had to be extracted by fire personnel.

Torres’ passengers, Jorge Gutierrez, 18, from Lindsay and a 15 year old male juvenile, were able to get out of the vehicle on their own and sustained minor injuries.

Torres was airlifted to a local hospital with major injuries and both of his passengers were transported to a local hospital by medical personnel for minor injuries. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in this collision.
