VETERANS DAY RUN

It's finally almost here. You might be tired of me talking about it, but I could literally talk about the Veterans Day Run all year long. I've been giving you countless reasons why you should participate in our upcoming Annual Veterans Day Run.

Let me begin by divulging some of the great things you'll receive as part of your entry fee. For starters is our signature long sleeve dri-fit shirt (guaranteed for pre-registrants), carry bag, new and cool collapsible water bottle, cell phone stand/credit card holder (thank you Bank of the Sierra) and more.

Finishers will receive a surprise or two after crossing the finish line. The race is chip-timed to ensure accuracy, results are posted online, and awards go out to the top 3 in each division.

It features a 10K run, 5K run and 5K walk- plus a Kid's Fun Run.

The last day to preregister is November 9. The pre-registered cost is only $20 and $10 for Veterans or active military. Day of registration takes place at Centennial Plaza 6:00-6:45am for an additional $5.

Your once a year chance to run or walk right down the middle of the military and flag-lined Main Street should be another reason to participate.

You also get to line up along many of our hometown heroes who we will recognize prior to the start. We'll have a presentation of colors, the national anthem, an honorary starter, which all will get your juices flowing for sure, and then you'll be off.

The forecast could not be better either. If you haven't run in a while, or ever, walk this year and possibly run next year.

The camaraderie is second to none and the sponsors are amazing, so I sure hope to see you there at 7:30 a.m. sharp on November 12!

UPCOMING Two things to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Tickets are on sale now for our Annual Senior Christmas Luncheon. This will take place December 9 at 1:30 p.m. on the Burton Middle School campus.

Tickets may be purchased at the Heritage Center, 256 E. Orange Ave., or in our Parks and Leisure Services office at City Hall.

The event almost sold out last year so I'd recommend not waiting to get tickets if you plan on attending. This wonderful afternoon is cosponsored by the Burton School District.

The Burton Middle School Leadership team always does a fantastic job serving the food. Live music and raffle prizes complement the tasty food.

The other question we often receive this time of year is when does our extremely popular youth Arena Soccer league begin registration?

The answer is December 4, and you may register online or at the Heritage Center. The league is for youth ages 5-13 and the fee to register is $60.

Volunteer to be a head coach and receive an additional $5 off. This league will fill up in record time so make sure you have December 4 down on your calendar.

Until next time… parks Make Life Better!
