Porterville High accepting Camp Fire donations
Donations being collected until Nov. 30
Porterville High School is collecting donations for those effected by the Camp fire — the deadliest fire in the history of California — that began last Thursday, Nov. 8, in Butte County and destroyed the town of Paradise.
Anyone wanting to contribute can donate blankets, pillows, diapers, socks, undergarments, ready to eat food, over-the-counter medication, first aid kits, Visa cards, gift cards, water and hygiene items. Donations should be brought to the Porterville administration office by Friday, Nov. 30.
Hygiene items, Visa cards and gift cards have been stressed as two of the most essential items to donate if possible. Evacuation centers are overrun with clothing donations, and outside of socks, Porterville asks people to not donate clothing.
Prepaid cards such as Visa cards or gift cards to any store can help people buy things they may have forgotten or lost when they were forced from their homes. Gift cards to gas stations are also welcome.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Camp fire was 40 percent contained and stretched over 140,000 acres, including the towns of Magalia and Concow, according to Cal Fire. The fire has caused 56 fatalities, injured three firefighters and displaced over 50,000 people.
