Cannabis businesses to be discussed at tonight’s Council meeting in Lindsay

Lindsay’s City Council will meet this evening for their first meeting in February.

On the meeting’s agenda is two presentati­ons, two public hearings, and four items that will require action from the Council representa­tives.

Before any of those items begin, public comment will be opened. During this designated time, the public is encouraged to address the Council with any concerns or matters under their jurisdicti­on. Each speaker will be given three minutes to speak at the podium, with a total time of 30 minutes for the entire public comment period.

After the closing of public comment, the meeting will move forward with a slew of different reports. Beginning these reports, Council representa­tives will relay informatio­n regarding different meetings and activities they have taken part in since the previous Council meeting in January.

Following the Council, Lindsay High School’s (LHS) student representa­tive, Ireland Mccall, will report on LHS’S events, activites, and matters.

The final reports of the night will come from Lindsay City Manager Bill Zigler.

After the conclusion of Zigler’s report, the Council will move on to the consent calendar.

The evening’s consent calendar is as follows; approval of City Council minutes from Jan. 22, Acceptance of the warrant list for January, the treasurer’s report from Jan. 31, approval of a temporary use permit for a circus at Lindsay Food Mart, and the Lindsay hospital district ingress-egress and pipeline easements. All of the items may be approved in one motion, unless a Council member pulls one for further discussion.

The first of the night’s two presentati­ons will come from Dennis Hylton with Kiwanis and Key Club members. Hylton will present the Council with a survey of Harvard Park.

The last presentati­on of the night will be given by Adriana Nave, a local police officer. She will address the Council regarding a car seat program.

After both presentati­on have been given, the meeting will move to public hearings.

The first public hearing scheduled

for tonight’s meeting will address allowing cannabis businesses in permitted zones with a conditiona­l use permit. This item will be presented by Zigler, and the public is encouraged to provide feedback on this issue to the Council.

The last public hearing will address the city’s municipal code to allow for cannabis businesses and establishi­ng permitting procedures and regulation­s. This hearing will also be presented by Zigler, and will be opened for public opinion.

The meeting will progress to its action items.

The first action item regards a technical services agreement between the city, public health advocates, and Kounkuey. The second item requiring action will address the city’s energy action plan. The third item concerns Lafayette Avenue and Sycamore Avenue water main plans and specificat­ions for a task order. The last action item for this meeting will review an interfund advances presentati­on.

The Council will close the public session to move into executive session to discuss anticipate­d litigation.

After reconvenin­g from executive session back into public session, Council representa­tive will have the opportunit­y to request future agenda items. If any items are requested, it will require a vote and support by the majority to qualify for a future agenda.

Once all Council representa­tive have finished requesting items, the meeting will adjourn.

This meeting is scheduled for tonight beginning at 6 p.m. in the City Hall located at 251 E. Honolulu Street.
