Bertie Jane Scheer, 80, of Terra Bella, CA, passed away in her family home in the presence of loved ones on February 7, 2019.

Bertie was born on May 21, 1938 to Willie (Dee) and Marie Gibson in Comanche, Oklahoma. The family moved to California in the late 40’s when Bertie was a young girl, settling in rural Terra Bella, CA. Bertie met the love of her life and waited until the age of 20 for her parents’ blessing to marry Leroy Scheer on July 25, 1958, and together they raised a son.

Bertie worked as a bookkeeper for the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Terra Bella, CA during the 70’s and 80’s. She also worked for several years as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, T&L Auto Parts in Terra Bella, CA until her husband retired the business in the 1990’s. At that time they established and farmed the Upper Grouse Valley ranch on Blue Ridge mountain southeast of Porterville, CA where they enjoyed life to its fullest in one of God’s most serene paradises.

Bertie had a heartfelt passion and gift for poetry that became published treasures of art. She produced many uplifting spiritual writings that made their way into the hearts and souls of so many people in the form of greeting cards for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Birthdays, Easter and other celebratory events. She also enjoyed spending time making jewelry, crocheting, reading and being surrounded by her family. She will always be remembered as that special person that greeted everybody with a warm loving smile and an open heart.

She was the unselfish portrayal of a loving, caring, compassionate and respectful grandmother, confidant and friend to all that had the privilege and honor of knowing her. Bertie was often referred to as grandma by many that were not related to her; she was that special loving grandmother that everybody wanted in their life. Heaven has welcomed Bertie home to be with the angels, but her spirit will forever be in the hearts and souls of those she so delicately touched with her gracious love and compassion.

Bertie said she'll be looking from the clouds above when the Lord takes her home; watching over and protecting her beloved family; she will truly be missed. Bertie is proceeded in death by her parents, Willie ‘Dee’ and Marie Gibson, her husband, Leroy A Scheer, and her son, Dwain L Scheer. She is survived by two siblings, Peggy Begley of Porterville, CA, and Phil Gibson of Arkansas, and survived by four grandchildren, Larry Scheer, Amanda Scheer, Victoria Scheer-maddox, and Shelby Scheer, along with many great grandchildren and countless others that called her grandma.

Services will be held in the Chapel at Myers Funeral Service in Porterville, CA on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11am. A reception will follow the service, across the street, at the Porterville Women’s Club at 265 N E St, Porterville.
