Strings to present Faculty Recital
Tonight the Porterville Summer Strings will present the annual Faculty Recital showcasing the extraordinary talents of the guest musicians gathered here this week to present the annual Porterville Strings Summer Music Camp.
This extraordinary program will be held at 7 p.m. at the Porterville College Music Room CA2. There will be no admission charge.
Musical masterpieces on the evening’s program will include selected movements from String Quartets by Beethoven and Mozart, Schubert Quintet (two violins, viola and two celli), Elgar Piano Quintet ( piano with string quartet) and selected works of Janacek, Kreisler and Brahms.
Visiting Faculty Guest Artists for the 2019 Summer Strings to be featured on tonight’s program include Maurice Todd – bassist, from Cleveland, Ohio; Alan Ohkubo – cellist, from Louisville, Kentucky; Jared Cooper – cellist, from Florida; Irene Kim – pianist, from Los Angeles; Josiah Coe and Meghan Yost Coe – violists, from Atlanta; Alex Granger – violist, from Los Angeles, and violinists Yordan Tenev – from Bulgaria; Yalyen Savignon – from Havana, Cuba; Katherine Baloff – from New Jersey; Benjamin Hoffman – from Los Angeles; and Chiai Tajima – from Japan.
Local music educators and members of Porterville Strings who will be participating in this concert as an Artist Faculty include cellists Paul Young and Justino Perez, violinist Rodelyn Lipumano-smith, pianist Gregory Smith, and bassist Evan Spieker.
Porterville Strings Summer Music Camp opened for students on Sunday, July 14. This week-long music experience will be held through July 20 at Harmony Magnet Academy’s Strathmore campus. The “Grand Finale” Camp Concert will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday July 20 at the Harmony campus.
