Harry Potter Birthday draws huge crowd
Over 350 families enjoyed a fun and festive day at the Porterville Public Library celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Children and some adults dressed up in fabulous costumes celebrating the wizardry of Harry Potter and the characters from J.K. Rowling’s world famous book series about the young wizard and his friends and foes at Hogwarts.
Axton Brummelle, 7, and his cousins, their grandmother Laura Perez and her daughter Andrea Mendoza visited the library to enjoy all the crafts for the celebration. They made Hogwarts house ties, lightning bolt bookmarks, Gilly Weed necklaces, and feather pens with the help of adults and library assistants.
There was even a green screen for children and adults to have their pictures taken at
taken at Hogwarts.
There were cupcakes, cookies, lemonade, and water for refreshments after all the fun, and a raffle and prizes were given out. Children won wands, Harry Potter tee shirts and more in the raffle.
Michael Garcia, a library volunteer and assistant said, “We are bringing the community together, and there are no sad faces here today. Everyone wants to be at the library for Harry Potter’s Birthday.”
“This is one of the biggest events of the year,” said a few of the library assistants.
Children were excited to read the Harry Potter books, and one young man, Axton Brummelle, 7, reads at seventh grade level said his grandmother and aunt proudly.
