Juvenile arrested for threatening school violence
On Sunday, Tulare Police Department was contacted by the Federal Bureau of
Investigations and notified of a “Snapchat” video that depicted a juvenile holding what appeared to
be a high powered scoped rifle and making statements that were interpreted as possible threats to
commit school violence.
The juvenile in the video was referencing the lyrics to a music video from a popular band called “Foster the People” and in particular; a song called “Pumped up Kicks.” Some of the lyrics consist of phrases such as “all the other kids better run faster than my bullet” and “better out run my gun.” The FBI believed the juvenile was somewhere in TPD’S jurisdiction, however there was little information available.
Detectives were immediately called out to investigate. After a lengthy investigation and by
using several resources available, they were able to identify the juvenile and track him down at his
residence. He was contacted and arrested. Detectives also located the rifle that was in the video and
noted it to be a scoped air rifle that had a thumbhole stock that can easily be mistaken for a high
powered rifle.
The juvenile was transported and booked into The Glen Moran Juvenile Detention Facility and
the case was forwarded to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office for its review. Because he’s
a juvenile his name won’t be released.
