Wyllie pleads ‘no contest’ in DUI Murders

A woman accused of causing a deadly DUI crash near Tulare entered a plea of no contest to two counts of seconddegree murder.

Today in Department 5 of the Tulare County Superior Court, Visalia Division, Cheyenne Wyllie, 28, entered the plea of no contest to two counts of second-degree murder, causing the deaths of Angelita Espinosa and Jamie Espinosa, as well as felony driving under the influence causing injury with the special allegation of causing great bodily injury. The crash happened on March 26, 2016.

“Today Cheyenne Wyllie has taken responsibility for her actions that caused so much pain for so many,” said Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward. “I hope that today also begins a time of healing for the Espinosa family, and that they take solace in the love that others have for them, Angelita and Jamie. I ask the community to honor them and all those who have lost loved ones to this kind of tragedy by being safe on the road and never driving under the influence.”

I am incredibly proud of the hard work and tenacity of our CHP investigators and the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office in pursing and securing justice for Cheyenne Wyllie’s wanton disregard for human life. This is a reminder to everyone that drinking and driving can have life altering consequences.”

Wyllie will face a sentence of 19 years, 4 months-to-life in prison at sentencing scheduled on September 17 in Department 5.
