Several Transit items up for approval by Council
The only three items up for discussion for Tuesday night’s Porterville City Council meeting revolve around the Transit services offered to the community.
After two meetings without approval of modifications to the Transit schedule, the item will be in front of the Council for a third time in hospes of getting approved. Along with the Transit services modifications, the Council may also approve entering into an agreement with Transloc for a one year pilot program and, if the pilot is approved, could authorize city staff to purchase the required Transloc Program Launch Service and the equipment needed to go along with the program.
The city’s Transit service is also looking for approval on two additional items.
The first is the purchase of 12 electric Transit passenger vans and each vans associated equipment. In an attempt to reduce service hours where there’s a low amount riders on public buses, Transit plans to implement an “on-demand” type of ser
vice where riders can call to be picked up in a smaller, more personal vehicle.
The final item up for discussion by Council is the acceptance of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Charge Ready Transport Program funds and the authorization to purchase charging station equipment. If approved, city staff would be authorized to execute the SCE Charge Ready Transport agreements, and would be allowed to purchase 12 Tritium Veefil RT 50kw charging stations, network services, shipping and sales tax, in the amount of $352,484.63, and one BTC Power 200kw charging station, network services, shipping and sales tax, in the total amount of $63,773.89 from Greenlots.
City commissions and committees, as well as city staff, will be given the opportunity to provide the Council with updates on their current,
recent or future activities, before the Council gives its routine AB1234 reports. The Parks and Leisure Services Commission and the Youth Commission are on a summer hiatus, but the Library and Literacy Commission, the Arts Commission, the Animal Control Commission and the Transactions and Use Tax Oversight Committee will report to Council. City Manager John Lollis will update the Council on water conservation statuses and the New Porterville Rescue Mission’s progress.
The Council will move forward into its routine reports after Lollis has completed his updates. This time will include reports on the Local Agency Formation Commission, the Global Leadership Summit and the Eastern Tule Groundwater Sustainability Agency, among several others.
Oral communications will be opened to the public twice during Tuesday’s meeting. This is the time for the public to address the Council on any matters of interest under their jurisdiction. Each speaker will be given three minutes to speak at the podium, unless time is extended by the Council.
