We’ve Moved!

Our staff at the Heritage Center has moved to a new location in Centennial Plaza. That is the building directly to the east of City Hall on Main Street, next to Centennial Park. To access the office, enter on Thurman Avenue. All facility reservations and program registration will now take place in this office. You can also visit our website to access those same services online. The Youth Center will still remain at 256 E. Orange Avenue.

Youth Center

Speaking of the Youth Center…know any youth that are bored after school? Are you looking for a safe environment for your kids to hang out until you get off of work? Stop by the Youth Center for a tour and sign up your child. It’s open Monday- Friday, 3:00- 7:00 PM. It offers a stimulating environment for ages 10-18 and enrollment is absolutely FREE! There is a game room with several different consoles, a pool table, board games, and foosball. There is access to a gym for basketball, dodgeball, indoor soccer, volleyball and an outside field for soccer, football, baseball and other games. Several field trips and special holiday social gatherings are planned throughout the year.

Start Training

I know we have some time before our Veterans Day Run in November, but it is never too early to start training! This is a great race for those of you that may want to try running the course for the first time. There are plenty of training tools online that can help a first time competitor schedule runs that work you up to the distance. Most of the schedules suggest that training begins eight weeks out so now is the time to take up the challenge. Runners and walkers of all ages from around the valley (and further) join in this scenic downtown route to compete for top honors. The race begins in front of City Hall prior to the annual Veterans Day Parade and features a 10K run, 5K run, 5K walk and a free kid’s fun run. Invite your family, friends and neighbors to join you in training and stay tuned for more details about the race.

Parks Make Life Better!

So many individuals and organizations help us with our mission of creating community through people, parks and programs. I wanted to give a few shout-outs to those that we have seen recently support our motto that Parks Make Life Better! A huge thank you to our summer interns from the PUSD Pathways program. They helped us run our Summer Night Light series and we truly couldn’t have done it without them. Also, Sierra Forest Products donated mulch for the Zalud House Garden which was very much appreciated. Thanks to those and others that give back to our fine community throughout the year!
