Family Literacy Day today

-

Come join us today at Centennial Park, 11 a.m- 2 p.m., for Family Literacy Day. This free event will be fun for the whole family! Some of the activities will include an obstacle course, face painting, informational booths, food and music. Hope to see you there!

We are right in the thick of Corporate Games 2019. There are 13 teams battling it out for the coveted Corporate Cup including: Beneficial State Bank, Burton School District, City of Porterville, Eagle Mountain Casino, OACYS Technology, Sierra View Medical Center, Town & Country Market, Tule River Economic Development Corp., Tule River Indian Health Center, Tule River Tribe Purple, Tule River Tribe Gold, Walmart Distribution Center Blue, and Walmart Distribution Center Grey. The action continues next week with cornhole, basketball, archery and volleyball. Visit portervillecorporategames.com for all the results. Rib Cook-off. Cost to enter the cook-off is only $100 and includes the ribs. Pioneer Days is a fundraiser with 100 percent of the proceeds going to preserve and protect Porterville’s Zalud House Museum. Built in 1891, the house is one of few homes from that era that has not undergone any remodeling and one of few museums in the nation that is furnished entirely with the owners’ original possessions. Entry packets for the rib cook-off are available at Centennial Plaza or online. Enter as a team or as an individual.

Registration for our Youth Basketball League has begun. This league is open to children ages 5- 13. Practices will begin in October and games will start in December. Our league welcomes all skill levels and develops fundamentals, character and sportsmanship. We want your child to enjoy basketball and look forward to playing with us again the following season. The cost of the league is only $50 and includes a team shirt and basketball. If you volunteer to coach, we will give you a $5 discount on registration. I recommend skipping the lines and saving some time by registering online. If you want to register in person, remember we’re in our new location across from City Hall upstairs in Centennial Plaza. Space is limited!

Spend your Friday evenings relaxing in Centennial Park listening to some tunes from local talent. Bring out your lawn chairs and blankets for free concerts from 6-8 p.m. every Friday. Music on Main continues through October and is co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and City of Porterville. Duggins Citrus Express will be playing September 20 followed by Custom Crush on September 27.
