To Everett Alvarez. The A4 Skyhawk he flew in Vietnam was dedicated to him at Portervill­e Aiport during a ceremony on Tuesday. Alvarez spent eight and a half years as a Prisoner of War. We thank Alvarez for his sacrifice and all military personnel and veterans for their sacrifice, including those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

To Portervill­e College for being at the top of meeting the requiremen­ts of AB705 designed to make sure more students are enrolled in introducto­ry courses that are at the transfer level. A study by the California Accelerati­on Program of 47 community colleges in the state determinde­d PC offered 100 percent of its introducto­ry sessions in math and English that were at a transfer level. Pasadena City College was the only other community college in the study to accomplish that feat.

To Harmony Magnet Academy for being ranked as the No. 1 public school in Tulare County by Niche. Harmony was also ranked No. 34 out of 395 charter high schools in the state by Niche and rank No. 40 out of all the public high schools in the state by Niche.

To Harmony Magnet Academy student Meera Kashyap for being recognized as a commended student in the National Merit Scholar Program.

To doctors Maria Perez Cunanan and Francis Cunanan for the grand opening of their new clinic, Family Medicine Clinic, on Tuesday.

The newest medical clinic in Portervill­e, Family Medicine Clinic, cut the ribbon for its grand opening on Tuesday afternoon, in front of its location at 93 N. Villa Street.

To all those who involved with the Bells Across America ceremony at First Congregati­onal Church on Sunday, celebratin­g Constituti­on Week.
