DMV opens 25 offices; Porterville still closed
The Department of Motor Vehicles opened 25 offices across the state on Friday to handle limited critical transactions that require an inperson visit.
The Porterville office remains closed. The closest offices to Porterville that are open are in Bakersfield, 3120 F Street, and Fresno, 655 W. Olive.
The offices have been open to assist customers with existing appointments. No new appointments are being taken for in-person customer service at the open DMV offices. Customers who visit the DMV offices are required to wear face coverings.
DMV still encourages those to check its online services at https://www. dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/ dmv/onlinesvcs to complete their DMV business.
The DMV is offering same day appointments for in-person services at its open offices for the following critical business: All Commercial Driver License transactions including applications, medical reports and administering knowledge and vision tests.
Paying registration for a vehicle impounded because of registration related issues
Reinstating a suspended or revoked driver license
Applying for a reduced-fee or no-fee identification card
Applying for a disabled person parking placard (this can also be done by mail using the REG 195 form)
Adding an ambulance certificate or firefighter endorsement to a driver license
Verifying a transit training document to drive a transit bus.
Processing DMV Express customers for REAL ID transactions, if time and space allow.
In order to focus field office services to these select transactions, DMV may direct customers to online services and other available options to complete their transactions.
The DMV has extended all driver licenses that expire between March and May 2020 and has expanded eligibility to renew online at https:// www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/ dmv/detail/online/dlrbi/ dl_top2
The DMV has also waived late fees and penalties for vehicle registration renewals due between March 16 and May 31 and paid within 60 days of the original expiration date.
Those who have paid penalties late fees for that time period are receiving a refund. Those who have paid for registration renewal by check and including the late fees in the payment should not cancel the payment.
Other DMV offices open are in the following locations: Arleta, Los Angeles, Redding, San Marcos, Fullerton, Modesto, Salinas, Santa Ana, Carmichael, Glendale, Montebello, San Diego Normal, Santa Rosa, Concord, Inglewood, Oakland Clarement, San Francisco and Stockton.
