Truck belonging to father of fallen Porterville firefighter stolen in Delano
Bakersfield, Calif. — Captain Ramon Figueroa was one of the two fire fighters killed earlier this year in the Porterville Library fire.
The late Captain Ramon “Ray” Figueroa’s dad, Ramon Figueroa Sr., says his family is still mourning their son’s death and today they have more grief after his son’s truck was stolen at a Home Depot parking lot, located at 601 Woollomes Ave., at around 11:30 a.m. Friday morning..
It’s described as 2004 black Chevy Silverado.
Raymond Figueroa told KBAK, “I went to Home Depot...went in around 11:15...came out at about 11:30 because I looked at my watch as soon as I noticed the truck was missing and so it was within a 15-minute period.” Figueroa Sr. says.
He added that he believes the truck was targeted for parts.
His son, the late Captain Ramon Figueroa told him that he never wanted this truck sold and now it’s been stolen.
Figueroa Sr. says, “He actually wanted me to pass it on to his son.”
Although the truck holds value, it’s what was inside that’s most important and the family wants it returned.
“The main priority is the 2 shields that I had fabricated in honor and memory of well my son Ramon...captain Ramon Figueroa and then secondly his coworker Firefighter Patrick Jones.” Figueroa Sr. says.
Figueroa, a Delano native, and Jones were both killed while responding to a fire at the Porterville Public Library in February.
Ramon Figueroa Sr. has a message to whoever took the truck, “Even if they would give them to someone else for them to turn it in because of the criminal element involved, that’ll be fine-- no questions asked I would just like to have the 2 shields returned.” Figueroa Sr. says.
