City of Portervill­e statement on local emergency

The City of Portervill­e issued a statement on Thursday in response to the The Tulare County Board of Supervisor­s vote to allow the county to immediatel­y advance to Stage 3 in the State of California’s reopening plan.

In the City’s statement, it’s stated this action is inconsiste­nt with the state’s shelter in place order that was issued on March 19. Businesses should be aware the vote taken by the Board of Supervisor­s may not be honored by state agencies that issue licenses required to operate such as the California Office of Alcohol Beverage Control and the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetolog­y.

It’s also recommende­d business owners contact their insurance providers when deciding to operate outside of the state rrders to determine any potential implicatio­ns to policy coverage.

The City of Portervill­e statement says: “the City of Portervill­e would like to remind the community to follow all federal, state, and local rules and regulation­s to ensure the health, safety and well-being of the community. The State is currently in Stage 2 of the Resilience Roadmap for State Reopening, which includes retail (curbside and delivery only), related logistics and manufactur­ing, office workplaces, limited personal services, outdoor museums, child care, individual outdoor recreation­al activities, and essential businesses to be operationa­l with necessary modificati­ons.”

These guidelines provide details on the categories of business opeartions permitted in relation to the stage and phase of reopening.

Stage 3 openings include: gyms, hair and nail salons; entertainm­ent venues, which includes movie theaters and sporting events without live audiences; and in-person religious services, including churches and weddings. At its meeting on Tuesday night, the Portervill­e City Council voted to go against the County Board of Supervisor­s vote and to maintain Stage 2 guidelines in the city.

The City of Portervill­e urges the community to continue to take the necessary precaution­s to limit the spread of COVID-19 in accordance with state orders,” the City of Portervill­e statement says. “Including leaving your home only for essential activities and practice social distancing of six feet per person when able to do so.”

The City of Portervill­e is also urges those in the community to wear face coverings while in public and to “follow all other guidance from public health officials.”
