I only care if you infect my grandchild

- BY JAVIER AGUIRRE

There are many analogies related to what’s happening in America these days. A migrant youth from one of Trump’s sh **** hole countries challenged the President and Congress’ limited intelligence.

She compared the opening of viral America to a skydiver who, after discovering his parachute did indeed open and work, decided to adjust it while still in free fall. Another son of a farmworker family compares the opening celebrations to someone who has a leaky tire, doesn’t know it, and continues to drive on it, to eventually break down along the road. Regret will come later. Another analogy relates all of those adults (because they’re mostly adults, if not by maturity then by age) to the tens of thousands of undisciplined, self-entitled high school students who decry the violation of their civil rights because they’re not allowed to misuse their cell phones or use obscenities in the classrooms. Teachers know what I’m talking about.

Standing beside those who honestly believe the viral infection is a hoax and a political convenience are those who fear sickness and death. They’re neither red nor blue. They simply are. Let’s open the bars. Let’s open the restaurants. Let’s open the movie theaters. If we do that, then let’s open the day care centers. Let’s open the schools, indiscriminately. Let’s give access to any and all adults to pediatric centers for children. Let’s open the playgrounds. What’s the difference? If adults can prove impervious to the disease, then why can’t the children?

Where are the children in all of this mess? Congress doesn’t address them. President Trump certainly doesn’t. The great number of adults who call for bars to open. . . they certainly don’t speak of the children. Too self-centered and egotistical to draw the children into the circle of conflict, they relegate this population to future deprivation. The only ones showing evident concern for the young ones are the frontline workers who have to inform a child their parent died, or inform a family a child won’t survive.

Scammers, thieves, hustlers, and hackers are just waiting for communities to open without a plan of action in place, because they thrive on the confusion and ignorance being promulgated by vote-hungry politicians. Communities won’t only open for bored factory workers, insensate office workers, sport freaks, and church congregations. The time is ripe for snakes to crawl from their holes. They’re just waiting for an open door. This is what reopening communities on recommendations from politicians will do.

I don’t care about your civil and constitutional rights to get drunk, engage in promiscuous sex, attend the churches of your choice, or exercise whatever shallow vices you may be victim to. I only care one of you will infect my grandchild.
