The Poppies
To all those fathers, especially over the past few months, for their dedication to their children as they receive their day this Sunday which is Father’s Day. (And yes, we forgot to acknowledge all the wonderful mothers before Mother’s Day, so please forgive us). To show your love for your father as comedian Jim Gaffigan put it, “If you’re happy and you know it, keep it to yourself and let your dad sleep.”
To Brian Phillips and Chris Rutledge who organized Saturday’s cruise to support first responders, law enforcement officers and all those who protect our health and safety. And to all those who participated in the cruise.
To Monache High School’s Jacob Buckley and Porterville High’s Clarence Harmon for being rewarded Pursuing Victory With Honor scholarships by the Tulare County Office of Education.
To the Children of First Responders for raising more than $8,500 for a bench and mural memorial for Porterville Firefighters Raymond Figueroa and Patrick Jones, who died battling the fire that destroyed the Porterville Public Library on February 18.
And also to the City of Porterville for receiving a grant that will provide for a mobile library vehicle that will provide library services throughout the city.
To Jim Crichlow, who is retiring as CIF Central
Section Commission. The CIF Central Section’s influence on high school sports in California grew substantially under Crichlow’s leadership. Crichlow has served as an educator, coach, broadcaster and administrator for more than 50 years and his impact on this area — and the state for that matter — is immeasurable.
