I thought illegal fireworks weren’t supposed to be ‘tolerated’
I thought I read in the paper that illegal fireworks will not be “tolerated” by the PPD. If that’s true, then why does it sound like I’m living in Afghanistan every night since Memorial Day weekend (47 nights now).
I keep thinking the Taliban might come bursting through my front door any minute to continue torturing my poor dog. Not too surprising to think that way when you’ve had your sleep interrupted 47 nights in a row.
I could agree more with Brock Neeley about banning the use of all fireworks in Porterville. Too many residents of this town have already demonstrated their blatant disregard and inconsiderateness towards people’s pets, property and the mental health of our veterans with continued abuse of fireworks.
Porterville has always been touted as such a patriotic town. Well, you can hang up all the banners you want, but until all fireworks are banned, you are showing nothing bu disrespect to all the brave veterans who continue to battle with PTSD, which includes our homeless vets who may receive little to no help for this condition.
The clubs and organizations that set up stands and reap financial gain from the sale of fireworks should be ashamed! Maybe they need to visit the animal shelters to see all of the traumatized and now homeless dogs and cats that have been picked up, not to mention the dead ones seen on the highway that may have run into traffic.
I’ve tried calling the PPD about illegal fireworks, and was told that unless I can provide an address, there is nothing they can do. REALLY? I’m in my house, but they’re the ones patrolling the streets. They can see and hear the fireworks going off in the same neighborhoods 47 nights in a row! It’s not rocket science, no pun intended.
The high temperatures and bad air quality are also huge considerations that continue to be ignored. Anyone who has sold, purchased, launched or enjoyed watching illegal fireworks, shame on you! It’s time to grow up. Linda Forman Porterville
